Euro 07 Civic Type R Group N ECU

Applications
- 07-08 European Civic Type R with K20Z4
engine and ECU part number 37820-RSP-E02
This is a plug in, reprogrammed replacement
ECU for the 07 European Civic Type R. It is not
suitable for any US Civic as the Euro Civic has
a different MAF (mass air flow) calibration.
This ECU cannot be used with the FlashPro.
Availability
This ECU is available now. All sales and
payment must be conducted through the
international Hondata dealers. This
ECU is not available direct from Hondata or from
North American dealers.
Australian Civic Type R owners, have a tune
mapped in Australia for Australian fuels
available from
J-Tune.
Details
The Group N ECU lowers the VTEC point from
5400 to
3800 rpm, advances the cam angle and raises the rev limit to 8600 rpm.
We have implemented a VTEC window from 3800rpm to 5400 rpm.
- Below 3800 rpm the K20Z4 engine is always on the low cam
- Above 5400 rpm the K20Z4 engine is always on the high cam
- Between 3800 rpm and 5400 rpm the K20Z4 is on the low cam at part throttle switching to the high cam at full throttle.
The Group N ECU will work well with on a
stock vehicle or on a vehicle with a variety of aftermarket performance parts. It will work well with:
- An intake
that has been designed to keep the stock air
fuel ratio
- Cat-backs (as long as they are less restrictive than stock.
(There are several that are more restrictive.)
- A race header (for
off road use only)
- A combination of intake and race header
The 07 Civic Type R employs a mass air flow sensor that automatically adjusts the air-fuel ratio for increases in air flow from intakes and race headers. Race headers will not cause this engine to run lean.
The VTEC switch point on this reflash is very
smooth - much smoother than the stock switch
point. With a stock
air box and race header the switch point is virtually undetectable. For the reduction in VTEC "kick" and aural stimulation, we apologize, but this is the path to maximum power.
Power is gained in the midrange from 4700rpm to 6300 rpm. Power gains above 6500 rpm are
small, although the higher rev limit will raise average power a little.
This ECU will work with a completely stock
Civic Type R or one with a combination of
performance parts.
2007 Euro Civic Type R - stock
The following dyno chart
displays power and torque before and after
the installation of the stock ECU. Intake
and exhaust were completely stock. The
biggest gains are from 4000 to 6000 RPM with
much smaller gains at the top end of the rev
range.

22007 Euro Civic Type R - with
intake and header
The Hondata Group N ECU
really shines when combined with intake and
header.
The bottom red line is a
completely stock Civic Type R.
The top blue line is the
power and torque generated from the addition
of an intake, header and Group N ECU. A
stock catback was used.
There are significant
midrange gains from 4500 to 6000 RPM. At
5400 RPM the torque increases almost 25%
from 106 to 132 ft-lbs. The Civic becomes a
lot more driveable.

How do I purchase the Group N
ECU?
Contact the Hondata dealer
closest to you. Hondata does not sell direct.
How do I remove my ECU?
The ECU is located under a plastic cover to the right of the battery under the hood. You will need a 10mm socket. This is what it looks like - in place and removed from the car.
There are 3 bolts holding the ecu in. You
may find it easier to completely remove the
battery, but you will need to enter the codes
for your radio if you do this.

Notes:
Nitrous has not been tested. As ignition timing has not been
significantly altered, nitrous is as safe to run with this
Group N ECU as with a stock ECU.
Aftermarket cams have not been tested.
Race header / Test pipe. This will eventually give you an engine check light telling you that you have a faulty catalytic converter. We have not seen this error cause any power loss. Race headers are for offroad use only.
For consistency in dyno testing we suggest you follow the dyno procedure outlined here.
Will this affect my warranty?
Any increase in RPM limit is at your own risk. If you suffer engine damage that is related to excessive revs Honda will not cover your warranty. Valve-piston contact, which typically occurs at 10,000 RPM is the result of a miss-shift.
With regard to aftermarket parts, the law in
the US is that warranty coverage cannot be denied simply because such parts are present on the vehicle, or have been used. For more details read the K series FAQ.
You will need to check the laws for your own
country.
Emissions testing shows no measurable difference from
a stock ECU.
Am really impressed with the ECU. Had it
fitted by TDi a couple of weeks ago and havent
looked back. Was worried that the lower vtec
point would mean if you floored it and then revs
remained over 3800 then it would remain on the
high cam and be really poor on fuel. It doesn't.
You can really feel the benefits of it and on a
long run to Kent and back it gave me another 50
miles on the tank. - tp
